How to.....a DIYselfer

Today I got to experience the joy which comes from knowledge that as a 27 year old man, I've never truly washed my hands. Almost as quickly as this paradigm shift occurred I got to complete the 17 steps necessary to aseptically wash my hands.  Can't say I felt much of difference, although I was very pleased to read that those Air Hand dryers (the ones at the movie theaters or McDonalds restrooms where you spend 3-4 sessions before your hands begin to show some drying progress.

Anyway, the big news is being clean is work. It's hardy hard work. So much so, one must be mean to be clean. You must be so mean to be clean that the slang "Dirty" could be applied to your dogged effort.

Furthermore, I plan on taking a shower for the first time in 27 years tomorrow morning.

Read the steps required by state for Aseptic Hand Washing. Guess what....you're no different from me.  It's okay. You don't have to admit it out loud, but go on and do yourself and this world a favor and get to washing.

  1. Remove watch and bracelets or push up 4 to 5 inches above hand. Remove all things except a smooth wedding band
  2. Stand away from sink so clothes do not touch the sink
  3. Turn on faucet  and adjust water to warm, comfortable temperature
  4. Wt hands thoroughly, including three to four inches above wrists
  5. Hold hands with wrists lower than elbows during hand washing procedure
  6. Apply a generous amount of soap to hands
  7. If bar soap is used, rinse it well before lathering and before returning it to the dish
  8. Rub palms together to work up a good lather for at least 15 seconds
  9. Steps 10-13 should last @least 20 seconds. Wash using friction and rotating motion
  10. Wash the palms and back of hands
  11. Wash fingers and between fingers
  12. Wash wrists and lower arms
  13. Clean well under fingernails by rubbing fingers against palms. Use nail file or orange stick to clean under fingernails
  14. Rinse well from arms to hands
  15. With a clan dry paper towel or towels, pat dry starting at fingertips working to wrist. Discard towel or towels
  16. Repeat step on wet hand with clean dry towel or towels. Discard towel/s
  17. Turn off faucet with clean dry paper towel and discard in wastebasket.
Yep.....you're dirty too. Crazy.

Defined: Modernized Standing Ovation

What is the mark of Web success in 2009? A million page views in a week? A spike in Twitter mentions? Both are meaningful indices, but not quite as satisfying as traffic crashing your whole site. It’s the Internet version of a standing ovation.”

I Challenge any man to find one video as exhilarating as the one below.

Now before you begin, lets lay it all out on the table. James Earl Jones is going to read the alphabet to you. Thats it.

Ready.
Set.
Go.

I've never been on the edge of my seat like I was listening. Vador.

Just so everyone understands

When you come over to the Jackson house to rock out on Guitar Hero you better be prepared to rock. We take it serious. No bush league performance. Whenever I rock the mike I rock the mike right. I utilize furniture, work the rock space, incorporate multiple rockstar pelvic thrusts, swing the mike, and frequently share the mike with fellow band mates to obtain power vocals. After the first song, the sweat starts-a-dripping. And when the sweat starts-a-dripping this rock star starts-a-stripping. Its all or nothing. Give it all you got. Guaranteed to rock you mind, body, and soul cause that's what being a rock star demands.

May it be known to all and cried out upon the lands of this nation - the man who performed Bon Jovi's "Livin on a Prayer" has an open invitation to join our band. For all who wish to gain rockstar god status and our dog's acceptance I suggest you follow in his steps.

Peace.

What does your google iweb page look like?

Tonight I finally took Google's iweb up on it's offer and created my own theme. While it's not something new or perfect (Lesley's face is covered) I think it is a great addition and move for the Google team.

If you've got pictures of what you're them looks like send me the link. I'm going to quickly head over to Lesley's page and switch her theme so she'll have a surprise.

Mraz is Coming

FYI: Jason Mraz is coming to UKY this Feb. Tickets 15$ students, 35$ nonstudents.

You can bet your bottom dollar I will be there. This fellow has been at the top of my favorites from the day I heard of his music. Wife has a major exam the day after the concert so it may just be me holding my phone in the air all by myself, but even this is not enough to discourage a ticket purchase.

Below, my first year of marriage's theme song.

Wake Up to the My Current Ring Tone

Go head, yall! Delight yourself to the most funky beat this white boy has ever heard. Nothing makes an exam at 5:00 Am followed by Cardiovasular exam at 9:00 Am go down better. I'm willing to bet if Erin were to play this song during labor the baby slide out immediately following the first chorus singing

"Check it out! Ya see I'm the B -A -B to B-B-Y and I'd like to say helloooo! For those who think my spelling sucks, can just suck on my toes. I say, my skin is smooth. Smooth as silk. Wheres my momma? Gone get me some milk. I say on and on and on and on, this beat is so fly, going to get my milk on!"

I've included the original video of the Sugarhill Gang. It's great because they're sticking it to the man, rapping with his women. Plus, you've got to give the producer props for trying to cover up the bad lighting job with the color circles in the editing room. I'm blinded after watching it too times. Two possibilities - 1. Camera man is fried & doesn't notice he has every spot light directed on his camera. 2. Blinded by the girls in bikinis which were way hotter back then.

Letter from my father on Adversity

A while back my father sent my siblings and I a letter. I thought I would share it with everyone.

Kids,

Many times in our life , adversity hits us square in the face. We all have excuses. When it comes right down to it, we all have it made. Attitude can conquer adversity every time.

The Navy seals are taught that survival is determined by 3 factors. 1) Having the stills to use the tools available, 2) having those tools, and 3) the will and determination to survive. the Navy instructors say survival is 80% will and determination and the 20% the other 2 elements.

Having a positive attitude is so powerful for you but also for people around you. When you look back at the Reagan era, they say his optimistic attitude spread across the country. Roosevelt and Churchill knew the same thing. They kept a smile on their faces and a determined look. Look at the old pictures of them. Optimism grows hope. Having the ability to create positive outcomes from negative events can be as powerful skill as anything else. In other words of an optimist, mistakes become experience, letdowns become learning, crisis becomes challenge, and adversity becomes opportunity. Remember the old saying....it's your attitude, not your aptitude, that determines your altitude.

Conquering adversity is all about heart. Whenever you think the problem is "out there", that thought is the problem. You become disempowered and a slave. Conquering adversity is as rewarding as anything.

I'll stop rambling on. Yesterday, I saw this video and thought it would be good for yall to see it. You all definitely have challenges but look at this guy. When you want to have a pitty moment, run this little video. It might help to inspire you.

Remember, we love yall. We are your parachute packers.

Love,

Dad

Music I'd like to have played at my funeral

Just found came across these guys about an hour ago and I love it. Before I go any further, let me tell you this bad is entirely instramental. Some people cannot stand music without words. I am not one of them. I interpret lyrics and voice to be instruments just as a guitar, piano, or cowbell (lots of cowbell). Anyway, I encourage you to check it out if you can appreciate talent. The band is called Balmorhea, which is pronounced Bal-moor-ay. They, two guys, are from Austin, Texas. One of the members has the pleasure of sharing the same name with Rob Lowe.

Your Day Just Got Better!

Good Sunday Morning everyone! I wanted to share this singer/songwriter I'm very into. His name is Sam Hart. The video above is the only one I could find and it's a little difficult to take him seriously with that painted on mustache. But once you start it, you will realize how legit he is. His music reminds me of a Jason Mraz. Enjoy.

Updated: Yep...I've got more. The next video is a bad called City and Colour. I haven't heard a song yet where I really disliked it. The singers voice is nice.

This last video is from Rosi Golan. Very nice.

When I realized I was a grown-up

It was the final weeks before graduation during a conversation with my father. I recently had been to a few interviews. I was talking with my father about which one I thought I should follow up on. When I asked what should I do, he answered "Its up to you. The balls in your court." I remember feeling the rush of reality and the seriousness of my decisions. T

Twitter

I've spent the past few days enjoying the wonderful world of Twitter. I've got to say this is the finest way to sort through all of the mess on the internet. I can't believe I didn't catch on to this for so long. This along with Friendfeed are quickly becoming my internet buddies.

Jay-Z - My President is Black

Don't know what I think about this. I guess I've been expecting someone to jump on this it just so happened Jay-z would be that man. Don't get me wrong I like the song.I suspect the rap industry will have a flood of songs like these in the upcoming future But I've got to ask......what are the chances Marshall Mathers will be come out with one?
